This one-day workshop offers the chance to have a go at the art of Ebru paper marbling. This is traditional Turkish marbling that floats water-based paints on a size of carrageenan. You will come away with a lovely stack of papers and enough knowledge to go and get started at home.
This is a fun and relaxed class, great activity to do with a friend. It’s suitable for complete beginners, you really don't need any experience just enthusiasm to have a go.
Over the course of the day we will experiment with colours, techniques and patterns. The size will be pre-mixed and ready for the class but we will run though how to make this. We will learn how to mix the paints, how to apply them to the bath, how to treat the paper, what paper to use, how to make a print and a selection of traditional combing patterns. There is also time for you to free style!
All materials will be provided along with a handout that covers everything we will learn in the class for you to take home with you.
Please wear old clothes and shoes or anything you don't mind getting a bit paint splattered as marbling is a messy business!
