Intimacy//Paradise III brings together the works of two artists who studied at Central Saint Martin’s College between 2005 and 2008. Eliseo and Birgitte both work in various media including painting, moving image, sound, sculpture and text. Recently they have both focused on painting and moving image, which are included in this show. Although using different subject matter, both artists paint figuratively and they depict realistic spaces or objects. These brightly coloured spaces or objects, however, hide a darker subject than meets the eye. Eliseo’s paintings are a political statement commenting on a sinister truth about the beautiful landscape of Sardinia, his homeland. This is even more evident in the collage of found film clips that he has edited together for this show, accompanied by his own sound composition. Birgitte’s paintings may at first glance suggest pleasant and peaceful situations or places. However, reading some of the titles of the works and the texts in the video projection they start to convey slightly darker truths and become psychologically charged.
