About
This concert closes the Hungarian Cultural Center's festival, Modernity X Hungary, focusing on the legacy of the great artist/designer László Moholy-Nagy, and it coincides with the exhibition, Moholy-Nagy: Future Present, at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum this summer.
Lukas Ligeti's ongoing artistic dialogue with the Bauhaus artists, especially the work of Moholy-Nagy, has led him to investigate new forms of rhythmic perception and startling juxtapositions between the “strict” and the “playful” - both key issues for Bauhaus artists. Program highlights include the world premiere of a quintet for soprano and four musicians (an homage to Moholy-Nagy sung by Ariadne Greif), several compositions for large ensembles performed by Contemporaneous, and a 30-minute tour de force for marimba presented by the incomparable virtuoso Ji Hye Jung.
