AboutRuby reflects on the tenacious nature of memory in her new site specific work at Green Cardamom. She uses twigs, branches and bits of vine to weave a nest-like impression of a cosy domestic interior, centered around a fireplace. Attempting to burn the old mementos the artist has placed in this hearth would be futile - the whole would catch flame, destroying the present along with the past.
Intimate and feminine concerns resonate in this exhibition. Each piece is a glimpse into a larger narrative that runs through Ruby's practice, here presented as vignettes from a diary or cathartic, personal chronicle. She is a deeply intuitive, sensitive artist, mining her own psychological state for productive inspiration, evoking an emotional response from the viewer. She often selects her materials as an ironic counterpoint to the visual form of the work.
