About
Iris Project stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and protesters as we mourn the loss of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the countless other victims of police brutality. We are here to listen, learn, and amplify Black voices. We cannot do this behind closed doors, this discussion must happen in full view, and so we reopen with a glimmer of hope: to commit to diligently dismantling systems of racism and white supremacy within our society, our institutions, and our hearts and minds. Words of unity and peace are unspeakable until there is something new to see, until every individual is activated, until material conditions are reversed, until justice is served, until equity is a visceral and lived experience. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain, that we may reclaim our minds and our essential dignity. We offer this show, In Person, as a place to gather as a community, to hold space for grief in the face of loss, honoring the resiliency and courage of those doing the work to protect and uplift Black lives.
“It starts with self-examination and listening to those whose lives are different from our own. It ends with justice, compassion, and empathy that manifests in our lives and on our streets.” ― Michelle Obama
