Human Portray: Inside/Out ; A group exhibition curated by Raphael Barbibay - Art Connections.

About

The Brick Lane Gallery is pleased to present a project entitled “Human portray inside/out” curated by Raphael Barbibay of Art Connections, a Tel Aviv based curatorial and professional consulting practice that represents Israeli contemporary artists worldwide.

For this London showcase, Barbibay has focused specifically on the theme of portraiture and will present on this occasion a selection of works by Rani Pardes, Avivit Segal, Yaniv Druker, Ilya Rinsky and Yfat Eluk.

The tradition of portraiture in art has long been regarded as a way of memorializing the sitter and, because of its highly subjective value, offers further readings and methods of expression by using a visual language of its own. As Aristotle stated, "The aim of Art is to present not the outward appearance of things, but their inner significance; for this, not the external manner and detail, constitutes true reality."

The works in this group exhibition are defined by a wish to enlighten one’s perception of the other by using visual and emotional languages to create a connection with the subject in the work. More than a simple depiction of a subject, these portraits rather become about what the viewer can see beyond the immediate formal elements. This intangible information is to be explored and discovered within the emotional weight of the work and, here, the artists’ personal journey reflects on the questions explored such as human behavior and communication.
