Jason Hickel, anthropologist at London School of Economics, gives an introductory talk on Degrowth.

About

Degrowth is a social, political and economic movement that advocates for the downscaling of production and consumption—the contraction of economies—arguing that over-consumption lies at the root of long term environmental issues and social inequalities.

Dr Jason Hickel is an anthropologist whose research focuses on inequality, global justice, and alternative economics. He is the author of a number of books, most recently The Divide: A Brief Guide to Global Inequality and its Solutions (Penguin, 2017). In addition to his academic work, Jason writes a column on development issues for The Guardian, and contributes to a number of other online outlets. He works as Policy Director with /The Rules collective, serves on the executive board of Academics Stand Against Poverty, and holds a Fellowship at the Royal Society of Arts.
