Hot Off The Press 2017 gathers together work by emerging printmakers from recent post-graduate courses in London. The show features artists chosen on the high quality of their work and to reflect the diversity in printmaking as a medium.
Hot Off The Press is a series of exhibitions which began in 2000, highlighting the best in new printmaking talent. Curwen Gallery has a long history with printmaking, having been established as part of The Curwen Studio, over 50 years ago. Artists such as Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Julian Trevelyan produced prints at the Curwen Studio, which helped in making it renowned for its lithography.
The impact of technology has hugely altered printmaking as a medium and caused it to evolve into new, and often exciting and innovative, directions. At the same time, traditional methods are seen with a new appreciation for their unique qualities and limitations. Hot Off The Press remains an important aspect of the Curwen Gallery’s annual exhibition programme, showcasing emerging artists working in this fascinating and versatile medium of printmaking.
