Holding Space: An exhibition to celebrate the power of a community holding space in which to safely explore the healing dimensions of Art.

About

Ten individuals from different backgrounds, having experienced the beneficial effects of the 'holding space' as a process within the Art Therapy Foundation Course at Bath College, were inspired to create a holding space for others. We hope that by sharing our stories we can create a platform for others to experience some of the benefits that Art can bring at a therapeutic level and in doing so raise funds and awareness for the Bath based Charity Creativity Works.

We have all discovered that Art is a powerful tool for unlocking the subconscious without the limitations of words, whatever your age, experience, beliefs or culture. However artistic you may or may not consider yourself to be, whatever your experience of art and creativity in the past, we would like to illustrate how it has helped us process, unlock, understand and acknowledge aspects of ourselves and our lives.

Through our work, often raw pieces in a variety of media, we offer you a window into some of our explored vulnerabilities in the hope this connects with somewhere in you. Issues explored include those around identity, understanding boundaries, emotional connection, finding your voice, managing chronic health, family dynamics and much more.

We invite you to come and just be. To think and reflect in this space between words. We welcome you to make time for yourself. To be held in this space. To be silent. To think and feel. To ask questions or use the interactive art space for your own exploration.
