Hidden Voices: PROCESSIONS in the City is a light and sound installation taking place in Aldgate Square on Saturday 20th October.

About

As an immersive site-specific sound and light installation, Hidden Voices: PROCESSIONS in the City will animate Aldgate Square, combining contemporary and historical narratives, weaving together the stories and ambitions of Aldgate women over the one hundred years since the Representation of the People’s Act, which granted the first British women the right to vote.

The stories of five past voices from the area will be championed, including Dame Henrietta Barnett, a prominent 19th century social reformer who fought to improve the quality of education offered to girls and to reduce inequality.

A selection of banners created by women from across the UK for PROCESSIONS will also be exhibited in St Botolph's Church, adjacent to Aldgate Square from 3pm on Saturday 20th October. Visitors will be able to experience up-close the extraordinary detail of these specially commissioned banners which reflect the hopes and concerns of contemporary women today.
