HATCHSPACE | LAUNCH EVENT

About

Hatchspace is a newly opened artist run initiative based in the centre of South London's thriving art community on Deptford's Creekside. As well as an affordable and supportive studio provision, Hatch will also be running an experimental project space and gallery at its centre. The space will be a platform for exciting new interdisciplinary collaborations curated in house as well as accepting proposals from artists and students looking for a supportive space in which they can road test and show new works. The opening event will include an open Salon show with affordable, original works for sale by emerging and established artists including: Natasha Bird, Nick Mortimer, Rachel Price, Alastair Eland and Paul Coombs; a bar serving seasonal eggnog and introductions to the project by the project manager, curator and artists. Hatch Space's programme of events will follow monthly themes, with events, exhibitions, workshops and guest speakers addressing issues around a central subject. The intention is to highlight the varying often opposing approaches to these central issues and encourage cross and interdisciplinary debate. Upcoming events include: January: Hatch Open & 'Bridging the Gap' with the month's events addressing the increasing dissolution of boundaries between artistic disciplines as well as the impact of technological advances on art making. Including a open 'Drawing Sculpture' workshop. February: Humour and the Absurd including 'Sisyphus: The Absurd Hero: Part II' (Curatedby Rachel Price) with new works by: Sibylla McGrigor, Mark Scott-Wood and Candida Powell-Williams with guest speakers.
