Hannu Prinz (1978) creates sculpted canvases that demonstrate a gestural approach to the act of painting.
About
The latest compositions explore the properties of leather transformed into essential pictorial material investigating various representations. Its shapes and colors absorb the light while generous gestures hidden underneath each composition spread from within. This physicality keeps Prinz closer to his works. The act of painting becomes a footprint of the body language, similar to action painting and dancing. Also, the representations of the images of everyday objects, which surround the artist, tend to disappear within the canvases puzzled by voluntarily ornamental compositions. Sensitive to the personal stories of various people, Prinz’s creative process remains strongly linked with deep emotional matters. Prinz’s melancholy is driven by music and self composed poems, directing his work. The words and the shapes become equally important in a form of a complex graphic language. The complex creative process results in artworks that are marked by strong visual effects.
