In this two day workshop, ceramic artist Meghan Downs will guide you in hand-building with clay and exploring surface decoration techniques.
About
The first day will involve a brief demonstration of techniques followed by time to explore various hand-building techniques, such as slab-building, plaster moulds, coiling and pinch-pots. You can then use a mixture of these processes to build your final ceramic piece.
In the afternoon, decoration techniques will be demonstrated, including slip-decorating, the use of stencils, mono-printing and sgraffito.
On the second day you will glaze and underglaze your bisque-fired piece, exploring decoration techniques. You will then have time in the afternoon to make more pieces using the hand building techniques from the first session.
All pieces made in both days of the workshop will be fired and glazed and returned to you after the workshop date.
This workshop is suitable for all levels of ability.
Note: The workshop will take place in two parts: the first on 20th June and the second on 27th June.
