Central St Martin's graduate Gwennaelle Cook presents a group installation of contemporary artists working with collage from the UK and America.

About

Piece In Our Time is the fourth in a series of exhibitions in our gallery showcase offering opportunities to recent graduates from the Yorkshire, Humber and Lincolnshire regions to select works for exhibitions at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre.

Gwennaelle Cook studied Fine Art at Central St Martins in London in 2014 and currently lives in Barton-on-Humber. She presents a group installation featuring artists from across the UK and America, who all use collage somewhere within their art practice.

The traditions of collage are much more than the act of cutting and gluing, it involves the long, never-ending dedication and process of collecting, searching, reusing or simply just waiting for the lost and found.  These collages begin as mere random lost fragments but then take on a new lease of life as they are juxtaposed into a work of art.

These contemporary collage works offer the audience a sensitive insight into the thinking process of these artists. The works show the intuitive threads and ideas that run through each of their creative processes.  Often these collages are used as initial ‘sketches’, which then translate into larger scale works, whether they are paintings, sculpture or installations.

Artists: Austin Chaston, Gwennaelle Cook, Isa Beniston, RP Brooks, John Dearling, Leo Foster, Asger Harbou Gjerdevik, Sophie Green, Samantha Hawes, Eoin Shea, Caleb Weiss, Nicole Weisz
