41 artworks from over 200 young artists have been selected to feature in Generation ART: Young Artists on Tour, a new national touring exhibition of artworks by children and young people in England.

About

Generation ART: Young Artists on Tour opens at the Turner Contemporary on 2nd June 2015 alongside the new Grayson Perry ‘Provincial Punk’ exhibition and includes an eclectic mix of artwork, from painting and ceramics, to film and photography.

Speaking about how the young artists were selected Jane Sillis, director engage said: “The open submission attracted impressive submissions from young artists, artworks created in many settings, school, galleries, youth centres and at home. The selection panel chose artworks which stood out as high quality and which exemplified what young artists are capable of creating. The panel were impressed by the range of medium young artists used and the variety of stimulus they drew on, including artworks and the world around them.  Many of the selected pieces were created by children and young people in response to artworks or with the support of professional artists. We hope that the art works on display in Generation ART will be a source of inspiration for other young artists, teachers, artists and educators alike.”

Beginning at Turner Contemporary, Generation ART: Young Artists on Tour will tour to New Walk Museum and Art Gallery and Soft Touch Arts, Leicester, and Quay Arts on the Isle of Wight in 2016. It is hoped that the exhibition will encourage new gallery visitors at each of the venues and will build on the skills of young people as curators and artists, and introduce Generation ART to each locality through specially designed audience development programmes. Work by established artists and new commissions will accompany the exhibition on each stop of the tour, demonstrating the continuum from art made by children and young people through to professional practice and the importance of providing creative opportunities for children and young people.
