Gee Vaucher, who is currently the subject of a major exhibition at the gallery, will be showing her film Angel (2012).
About
The forty-five minute work features a girl’s face as she gazes at the camera, with subtle changes in expression captured alongside a haunting soundtrack. Vaucher has said of the work: ‘I started the film as a portrait of a young girl who was about to enter into her final years of school. I’d noticed that a child’s face, moving up from one school at the age of eleven to another and mixing with the ‘big kids’, changed dramatically. I wanted to catch that face before the transition. I thought that would be it, but the film seems to have stated something else, the fears and joys of a child.’ Following the screening there will be questions and answers with Vaucher, as well as the subject herself.
