About
Professor Delaquis has been a professional artist since his teenage years. Delaquis, who is now 70, built a house for his parents from the proceeds of his work as a cartoonist for the pan African Magazine, Drum, when he was in his teenage years. He is well known for his semi abstarct horsemen of the Sahel, townscapes and markets. On the heels of a recent retrospective of his drawings (from the age of 17 to 50, at the National Museum in Accra), this is the first major exhibition of this great artist in London. The celebration is ably supported by Anne Hemans-Blankson, Delaquis’ former student (recently featured in BBC1’s “The Painting Challenge”) and two greatly fascinating artists; Stephen Gwoktcho of Makerere University and Bruce Chidovori a professional artist resident in London
