About
In a time when borders are closing and foreigners are being treated as unwelcome; Brexit, President Trump and rising racism require a specific response.
This exhibition will survey foreign contemporary artists to show 21st Century culture is by definition open to ideas from abroad. Bury Art Museum has built an international reputation and brought some of the most important foreign artists to audiences in Bury and the region. The ‘Foreigners’ exhibition celebrates some of those and introduces new exciting artists and ideas not from the UK.
This won't be a show about immigration or refugees; it won't even be a show about foreignness. It won’t romanticise the Foreign as Other. The Foreigners exhibition will be a cultural action that defies fear with hope and keeps open the conversation with foreigners.
