Signet Contemporary Art is proud to present our upcoming exhibition ‘For The Ocean’ from the 22nd to the 31st January 2022 in collaboration to support the Marine Conservation Society.

About

The Marine Conservation Society is a UK charity unified by a concerted effort and impulse to engage in the protection of our seas, climate and wildlife for over 30 years. It is more paramount than ever to contribute to the recovery and health of the ocean, with the impending perils of climate change presenting one of the greatest challenges to humanity. Art has always been intrinsically valuable in raising important conversations and cultural commentary surrounding world events, indispensable in prompting engagement and even action, and a portion of the proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to MCS.

The show fuses the works of ten contemporary seascape artists who collectively celebrate the majestic, powerful and enchanting attributes of the ocean. These include Erika Toliusis, Luis Fuentes, Magdalena Morey, Andrzej Szymczyk, Irina Cumberland, Jonathan Trim, Constance Regardsoe, Tom Barron, Jean Pierre Kunkel, Bill Bate.

The exhibition presents a range of approaches to the way the sea is depicted, such as Constance Regardsoe’s realist paintings of the figures embroiled in waterscapes, celebrating pelagic transience through intense aquatic detail that expresses the light and patterns of water and how it distorts the bodies submerged. This impressive realism is evoked by Jean-Pierre Kunkel, an established German artist who imbues his pool paintings with a level of idealistic clarity that envisions a fantastical world, rendering oils in a way that electrifies the water with an increased magnitude of glamour. The exhibition promises an assortment of mediums and styles, for instance Andrezej Szymczyk’s impressively detailed bronze sculptures, perfectly recreating the delightful character of the marine wildlife that inhabits the oceans. In another way, abstractionist Magdalena Morey’s introspective mixed-media vistas highlight the importance of natural areas in evoking a sense of soulful voyage and discovery within ourselves when experienced, juxtaposing smooth and fractured, richly vivid sweeps of colour, attractively embellished with gold leaf. Inspired by a range of waterscape locations, the artists are aligned by a shared love and admiration for the ocean.

In a country surrounded by beautiful, beloved coastlines, this exhibition guarantees a refreshing outlook of the striking temperament of our seas by a group of contemporary international and UK based artists. Prepare to experience the refreshing sense of the ocean breeze with our collection of exciting new artwork by a group of emerging and well established artists, and contribute to an essential cause this new year at Signet Contemporary Art.
