Visit the gallery to see the expert sculpture of Bernard McGuigan and the enigmatic photography of Yana Rits.
About
In her photographic practice, Cinematographer and visual artist
Yana Rits employs her own body as a visual aid. The figures in the photographs are integral to their environment and unify the composition, which is beautifully spaced and balanced.
This will be Yana’s first exhibition in Rye.
In the tradition of the 20th century sculptors such as Gill, Hepworth and Moore, Bernard McGuigan uses a direct carving method to create abstract sculptures that are potent, tranquil and deceptively simple.
In this collection, we see work more architecturally structured in form than in McGuigan’s previous figurative works.
The tension when viewing his work, is the suggestion of stone as a strong reliable, timeless material in contrast with our own fragile lives, which serves as a perfect accompaniment to Yana Rits aesthetic.
