To Camera, 2005
In 'To Camera' the artist's voice over reads a series of letters requesting permission to film on Downing Street for an artwork. As the explanations, questions and eventual pleas for access are spoken, we witness the artist silently filming herself outside three other iconic buildings in London, New Scotland Yard, The Royal Courts of Justice and The Houses of Parliament.
Two speakers sit on a balcony, four floors above a busy London road. Framed like a stage with an active backdrop, the speakers perform to camera, sounding out the unmistakable sounds of an appreciative audience. Captions give us the official track descriptions of the recordings as they laugh, laugh and clap, and applaud.
The film screening will be shown throughout the day alongside the photographic work Photo Opportunity, 2008 - 2011, with an opening evening from 6:30pm.
