Flávia MuàŒË†ller Medeiros' video document is an ongoing compilation of interviews with curators, surveying the subjective contexts by which the slippery terms ‘failed artist', ‘emerging artist' and ‘young artist' are rehearsed. The work underscores a repetition of institutional and market-driven language in the art world, reflexively exposing the spaces of uncertainty, power and resistance that come into play when we consider an artist's practice. By positioning the curator as the central subject of address - which is as much a strategy of subversion as it is a statement of complicity, Medeiros performatively engages in an exercise of tracing the development of her own trajectory as an artist.
