A site-specific light installation by artist Hannah Brown, investigating the roots of Balsall Heath, whilst exploring the philosophical principle that everything is connected.
About
'Everything Connected’ explores the roots of Balsall Heath and was inspired by the philosophical principle that everything is connected.Mainly found in California, the Redwood is both the tallest and widest species of tree in the world. Despite growing up to one hundred metres tall, its roots will rarely delve deeper than five feet below the surface. Instead, the roots extend outwards and intertwine with the root
structures of other Redwoods, creating a sprawling support network that each tree contributes to and then uses to anchor itself securely.
‘Everything Connected’ is an immersive interpretation of an unseen network of threads that link us all together. By journeying underground, below the streets of Balsall Heath, the artist hopes to bring this idea to life by illuminating the hidden threads that run through our
communities and connect us all to each other.
After all, we are each a part of the same whole.
