Having exhibited at Thackeray Gallery over the last three decades, Ethel Walker is back with new oil paintings of light filled skies and thunderous landscapes – one could even say she is a ‘modern day Turner’.

About

Annie Leibovitz once said, ‘Nature is so powerful, so strong.  Capturing the essence is not easy – your work becomes a dance with light and weather.  It takes you to a place within yourself’.  For acclaimed Scottish landscape painter Ethel Walker, it is exactly that, “a dance with light and weather”.

Having a worldwide reputation, with collectors in all four corners of the world, this softly spoken artist creates sweeping, light filled skies, and thunderous, atmospheric landscapes & skyscapes of immense beauty – one could say that she could be a ‘modern day Turner’.

Best viewed in a ‘half light’, her work immediately transports you into the landscape.  Whether small and intimate, or larger than life, often over 2 meters long, what she captures is a familiar ‘window’ onto the world outdoors.  They are, quite simply, magnificent.

Now in her seventies, having gathered both critical acclaim and awards in equal measure, from the Anne Redpath to the Mabel McKinley award, Walker is at the peak of her career.

This remarkable artist, who has steadfastly exhibited with Thackeray Gallery for over three decades, creates another collection of new and unseen oil paintings.
