Surface Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition of our eleventh East Midlands Graduate Project, EM19: Octeria.

Octeria is a reflective declaration of existence; it is the freedom in defying the norm and amplifying the unnoticed. Octeria is what makes a plastic bag breathe; it is the process of embedding troubles, anxieties and passions into fabric. Octeria is the law of attraction’s neon glow and the products extracted from women’s bodies. Octeria is the threats to our wet, soft, complex, human selves.

The East Midlands Graduate Project supports Fine Art graduates across the region as they make the transition from university to the professional art world. Octeria is the culmination of a four-week residency undertaken in Surface Gallery’s upstairs Project Space. Eight of the region’s most exciting new graduate artists have been commissioned to produce original work for the exhibition

Artist Talk and Tour: Saturday 12th November, 2pm

An opportunity to meet the artists and learn about the ideas behind the work. This is an informal event, and will be followed by a short Q & A.

Octeria opens in the Main Gallery, in conjunction with Reboot: An Exhibition by Printemps and Green Riot in the Project Space. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Pheasantry.

Free Entry: Everyone Welcome

Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England

Partners: Communities Inc., Nottingham Trent University
