Edward Liddle. Carrément!

Edward Liddle (1989, Pembury) studied Fine Art Painting at Brighton University, in the UK. He received funding from Arts Council England for his solo exhibition Wowzers! in 2013 held in Brighton at the ‘Community Arts Centre’. The exhibition comprised of two separate displays in which the same group of art works by the artist were utilised, but displayed in radically different ways for each unique stage of the exhibition.

He was selected to exhibit at the Other Art Fair in 2014 in London.

He took part in the inaugural Brussels based itinerant residency La Dent Creuse in 2015, which saw a group of artists make new in-situ artworks during a two week period in a vacant maison du maitre in the centre of Brussels.

For his solo exhibition Chouette ! held at Galerie Pierre Poumet in 2016 in Bordeaux, he exhibited older works alongside new works in his sustained pursuit to re-contextualise and re-consider his own art practice.

Liddle was chosen to participate in a collaborative residency at Hypercorps in Brussels in January 2017, where he worked for three weeks with French artist Lucie Lanzini on a series of new collaborative sculptures.

His works have been exhibited in group exhibitions in London, Brussels and Cardiff.

In 2017 he returned to study in London and will shortly complete a Masters in Cultural Theory.

The works created for the exhibition Carrément ! at Centrale Lab, continue his ambition to critically interrogate what it means to create art works, especially objects which can be thought of as paintings. Situated somewhere between painting and sculpture, the site-specific works on show at Centrale continue to question the hierarchies of art objects, in reflection of everyday gestures and acts not considered to be art.
