About
Edward Holland’s “Notes from the Dispatch Case” takes its name from an oblique reference to “the recognitions” by William Gaddis. Edward had wanted to build a body of work around Gaddis’s book but was unable to satisfy that need effectively enough so he shifted the focus to only one aspect ; mythology and meaming-making. He arrived at the constellations of the zodiac as a visual intersection of the two and thus built the series around it. Edward says he is drawn to the constellations of the zodiac and it’s related mythologies as obsolete systems for delivering information and meaning which he sees as a parallel to the romance of and ability of painting to create meaning whether openly, empirically or emotionally.
