About

DYSPLA will blur the lines between traditional film festivals and the art gallery experience through their pilot festival, DIMIF, funded by the Arts Council England.

The DIMIF will screen the visual innovation of dyslexic and neurodivergent filmmakers from 14th to 18th March 2018 at The Crypt Gallery, St Pancras, which will explore the terms, “dyslexic narratives” and ‘dyslexic aesthetic’. All award-winning films will be played simultaneously in the space, projected onto smoke and made audible via a radio transmitter that the audience is given on entering the gallery. The audience will negotiate their way around the space, searching for the films based on fragmented information that they hear and see. This necessary audience participation is not only intended to be fun, it will also highlight the way information can be processed differently, as experienced by neurodivergent people.

The festival will commence with the Awards Ceremony Gala and Wine Reception on 14th March 2018. Our Gala guests will be the first to experience all the award winning films in an immersive gallery setting, opening with commissioned video artist, D-FUSE, a moving image innovator and pioneer, who will create a multi channel holographic smoke installation that will be edited live. This work will explore the eminence and definition of the ‘dyslexic aesthetic’ which will be discussed further during the Industry Panel Discussion on the 15th March 2018 at The Crypt Gallery.

DIMIF are awarding the most exciting filmmakers, handmade 'wearable' awards, designed by Sari Rathel, which will be presented at the Gala on 14th March 2018. All award-winning films will also go on tour to a selection of universities in London and across the country to maximize the exposure of the festival and raise awareness of a new Genre of filmmaking.

Dates & Location

#DIMIF will run from the 14th - 18th March 2018 at, The Crypt Gallery, Euston Road, London, NW1 2BA.
