Mixed-media exhibition

As part of its 2023 programme, the curatorial initiative s-l-i-c-e is pleased to present Durch, a mixed-media exhibition by UK and Berlin based artists, Oliver Lunn and Rory Biddulph. The title of the exhibition reflects on the importance of ‘process’ in their practice, with works moving through countless changes before they reach their final state – a state that may continue to grow as parts are often repurposed, replicated, or echoed through new bodies of work.

Expanding on traditional ideas of collage and assemblage, Lunn and Biddulph take a divergent approach to the way we categorise images and materials, stripping back standard hierarchies and privileging new contexts in which they can exist. This juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated elements creates a sense of cognitive dissonance that invites us to consider the subjective nature of where we place value in the material world.

Rory Biddulph is a British artist who lives and works in Berlin. He gained his BA from Newcastle University (2006-2010) and his MA from The Slade School of Fine Art (2013-2015). Exhibitions include the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize 2021 (shortlisted), the John Moores Painting Prize (long-listed/exhibitor), The Clifford Chance Purchase Prize (2016 - shortlisted), the XL Catlin Art Prize (2016 - shortlisted). Between 2020-2022 Biddulph founded and co-ran Slice, a curatorial initiative providing artists and curators with the opportunity to exhibit in Berlin spaces.

Oliver Lunn is a British artist who lives and works in London. In 2009 he completed a BA in Fine Art at Bath Spa University. Lunn has exhibited in London, Sweden and Germany. In 2020 he had two mixed media works acquired by the Kanyer Art Collection - an international collage collection dedicated to collagists from 1980 to the present. He is currently working towards a group show in London in 2023.

About s-l-i-c-e

s-l-i-c-e is an artist-led curatorial initiative through which artists and curators are invited to develop exhibitions and events across various locations in Berlin. Through our association with the Ufer Studios, we aim to bring together different disciplines, exhibiting both lesser-represented and more established artists alongside each other. In doing so, we offer unique spaces and opportunities to develop projects that allow for experimentation outside of the commercial gallery sphere. To find out more about s-l-i-c-e, including past exhibitions and upcoming shows, please visit www.s-l-i-c-e.com or contact us on slice.berlin@gmail.com
