Every night I hope and pray
A dream model will come my way
I want a dream model
So I don't have to dream alone
Dream model, where are you
With a love, oh, so true
And the hand that I can hold
To feel you near as I grow old

Every night I hope and pray

A dream model will come my way

The lyrics of a love song from the 50s is like the longing for finally getting the answer to how to do good and right without needing necessarily to change or reflecting on your own privileges. To be the ideal version of you, without (really) wanting it to be or even being able to. Fake it till you make it. It is hard to recognize yourself as what you are. A glossy chameleon, always leading multiple lives at once. Put your head on my shoulder, I know you are scared. You can do anything as long as you feel guilty about it.

I want a dream model

So I don't have to dream alone

Dream model, where are you

With a love, oh, so true

And the hand that I can hold

To feel you near as I grow old

and then there is the possibility to become monstrous and to embrace it. it is ancient tactic from the days where macho men could pick up girls with a smile or grabbing them by the pussy, and still be the loudest voice. oh, how sweet would the fruits of self-righteousness taste, if we could just pick them the same simple way. but boohoo, even though you want to feel good about ourselves (yolo) , living la vida loca and enjoying your generic art show, you actually need to stop being a golden monster hero #notsorry, meaning: know and own your shit, decide what you are doing and be ok with it.

I want a dream model

So I don't have to dream alone

Dream model, until then

I'll go to sleep and dream again

That's the only thing to do

To serenade yourself to sleep will maybe relax you, but won’t necessarily bring more money on your bank account. Lately I saw a Facebook post from an artist asking for help to find a job in theatre, a gallery or as an artists assistant, no likes, but 25 comments followed all written by different people just mentioning: me too. It is a joke and you are a joke as well. Maybe today is the day where you stop being an artist. Maybe this will turn out to be your best decision ever. Maybe you shouldn’t give up just yet. Please repeat: I am part of the system, the whole, the world. My action effects others. I am aware of my responsibilities. I am not my resources. I don’t know everything but I am eager to listen and learn.

I want a dream model

So I don't have to dream alone

Please don't make me dream alone

I beg you don't make me dream alone

No, I don't wanna dream alone

So.

Stop the bullshit.

Get real with me.

Let's tango.

(Text by Eva Funk)

Eva Funk, born 1988 in Villa, Austria, is based in Berlin. She was educated at the Berlin University of the Arts and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Her recent practice makes use of repetitive motifs across different contexts, building up large scale installations with performative interventions in the investigation of relationships between objects, language and socio-political power-structures often in relation to notions of failure. Funk works with physical bodies (of people and objects), as well as writing. She has self-published (collectively) artist writings under rotato press, and is interested in the book as an alternative to the exhibition.

Florian Kiniques, born in Namur, Belgium, in 1988, studied at the Fine Arts Academy of and lives close to Brussels. He is the recipient of the Louise Dehem Prize from The Royal Academy of Science, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium, in 2016, the same year he received a SMART National grant. In 2017, he was shortlisted for Art Contest-Fondation-Boghossian Prize in Brussels.

His work was widely exhibited in art centers, institutions and artist-run spaces such as Centrale for Contemporary Art, Domaine du Château de Seneffe, SPACE collection.

Michael Pohl was born in Gießen, 1981, studied philosophy in Mainz and Fine Arts in Münster. He is based in Berlin, since 2010. In his work he uses different media, video, installation or object art to change the viewers perception.

For the exhibiton Dream Model he will install his new work "The Law Of Attraction“, bringing two motifs together: A group of objects dealing with the architectural redesign of Berlin, using prominent buildings as sculptural starting points. A second layer is put on top  by a semi-interactive multi-channel sound installation that pulls from online offers for the optimization of the self.

Pio Rahner, born 1982, lives and works in Bremen and Offenburg and has studied at Folkwang University of Arts, Essen.

He was artist in residence at Austrian Architekturforum and Operndorf in Burkina Faso, where his work is presented in the National Museum. Together with Max Santo he received the project grant of hr.Fleischer e.V. and realized „Richtfest“, an intervention in public space in Halle, Saale, in 2016.

His work shows his interest in sensing a human being through its environment, action area and routine. Therefore he is using various techniques such as photography and video, sculpture, installation and interventions in public space.

Max Santo, born 1983, studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and lives in Bremen.

With his objects, drawings and space installations Max Santo examines and questions ways of perception and processes. Weighting shifts and yet unseen becomes a charged element.
