About

London-based artist Shane Waltener presents new works resulting from onsite research and exchanges with dancers at Siobhan Davies Studios. Looking at the relationship between stepping and stitching, Waltener will work with dancers and use the building as a loom to weave on, creating a site responsive installations. The works are destined to evolve over the course of the exhibition as visitors are invited to interact with these. He will also show a series of wall mounted woven pieces, produced by using architectural plans of the building, dance notation and stitching patterns as pricking paper for making bobbin lace. Alongside these new pieces, Waltener will also present ‘Stitching Score #1', an animated installation using over 200 metres of deconstructed clothing stitched together, material produced during interactive installation at the Palm Court at Alexandra Palace last year. Shane Waltener is renowned for his large scale textile craft inspired installations, and most recently his contribution to the Love Lace exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum and Sydney Design Festival 2011. His projects often involve visitors as participants and contributors in the making of these works, prompting communication and engagement through the act of making.
