About
Join printmaker, Jemma Gunning for a lively two days of exploring the landscape, creating a series of experimental drawings to later transcribe into the printed mark. Jemma’s practice is underpinned with drawing, influencing the marks she creates in her etchings and lithographs. During the two day workshop, she will share with you her passion for printmaking, her working methodologies and all that inspires her to make.
NB: Suitable for all abilities from the experienced practitioner who might be looking to learn new skills, to, the complete beginner. No printmaking experience is needed, its more about allowing yourself time and freedom to experience a new creative outlet.
A rough outline of our 'Drawing into Printmaking' 2 day workshop
Day 1:
In the morning we will head out into the wondrous landscape of the Peak District to walk, draw, explore Bullclough's grounds and be inspired. You will be set a series of drawing challenges to break down the traditional sense of observational drawing. Exploring various ways to create a mark you will begin to build up your own visual language to translate into intaglio marks.
After lunch we will evaluate the drawings we made and discuss how they can be translated into drypoint plates. An introduction and demonstration to intaglio printmaking will be given, covering tools and materials, providing you with the knowledge to begin exploring this fantastic printmaking process. With guidance, you will spend the afternoon working your drawings up into a series of plates.
Day 2:
Today we will be getting inky and begin printing up our plates into small editions using a portable etching press. Exploring wiping techniques and colour application you will individually create a series of intaglio prints that are unique to your own voice.
We will be using non-toxic materials, empowering you with the knowledge to be able to continue printmaking at home.
