Students will consider ways of looking at the head and its surrounding space, and will examine how scale, depth, focus, tonal range, viewpoint and composition affect the emotional charge of a drawing.

About

Every Friday, 10 sessions, £385
From 29 September 2017 to 1 December 2017, 10am – 5pm

Tutors: Ivy Smith, Thomas Newbolt and Marcus Cornish

Determining a point of fascination and translating it onto the page, students will draw from a variety of models, male and female. Students will consider ways of looking at the head and its surrounding space, and will examine how scale, depth, focus, tonal range, viewpoint and composition affect the emotional charge of a drawing. In the first part of the course students will work with a sculptor, taking a three-dimensional approach to drawing, circumnavigating the contours and understanding the structure of the head. The following weeks they will work with two painters with differing approaches.
