Donal Ryan studied painting at St Martin's and Chelsea art schools in the early 1960s.
He graduated just as fashion shifted to new , graphics based styles such as Op and Pop Art and later to conceptual, installation art.
He is delighted by the revival of interest in vigorous, 'painterly' painting,
culminating in the great 'Abstract Expressionism' exhibition at the Royal
Academy, with works by masters like De Kooning, Kline and Rothko, who inspired him back then and still do.
