Distorted Vision is the second in a series of four online exhibitions. Each explores young people’s experience of mental health issues. The series showcases artwork by a mix of UK-based and international artists aged 13-25.
About
City Arts is presenting this exhibition in partnership with the Institute of Mental Health. Artwork was submitted in response to an open call. It asked for work which responds creatively to the theme of mental health. The artwork was selected by a panel of young curators: Jenna Jones, Katie Inglis and Meridith Dickin.
Young people face growing uncertainty and new pressures. These artworks variously express feelings of depression, anxiety, and dysphoria. Curator Jenna Jones explains that the artists “use art as an outlet show us their personal struggles”. For Katie Inglis, the artworks magnify “perceived imperfections” and show the way we “distort how we see ourselves”. Meridith Dickin agrees, for her the work captures “all the ways in which our perceptions get twisted, morphed and distorted.”
