PICTURE BERLIN ofers public programming to the extended Berlin art scene through a series of lectures, exhibition openings and panel discussions.
PICTURE BERLIN, founded in 2009, by artist April Gertler, is a not for proft artistinitiated hybrid residency/art academy. The Summer Session encourages an active discourse in issues surrounding contemporary art while simultaneously giving the resident artists a chance to develop their work.
The artists develop new work during their stay and will showcase elements from their process in conversation with the Berlin based independent curator Pauline Doutreluingne.
This years resident artists explore their art practice through a variety of media, from photography, video, performance, installation to textile and urban intervention.
Through out this variety of mediums, the notions of performativity and processuality are a red line that bounds their work whilst exploring the summer program.
PICTURE BERLIN can be seen as a collective performance stretched across time over the course of 6 weeks in the fabric of the city of Berlin
