New works by participating artists explore the dialects of the icon through a wide range of media, from photography to painting and sculpture

About

The group show Dialects returns to Pushkin house for the third year running with a collective based on the idea of Iconology. Departing from the previous themes of the show that explored Russian identity and visual art as a language, Dialects III aims to broaden the exploration of these themes through the concept of iconology. The term iconology is used in this context as an interpretation and study of the idea of the icon that which is central to the dialectical power of an image: the ideal, the representative, the symbolic; but also the effigy, the material artefact, the idol, the portrait. What affects does the icon produce? Contributing artists include: Viktor Timofeev, Veronica Smirnoff, Philip Firsov, Alina Dolgin, Magdalena Suranyi, Natalia Skobeeva, Adelita Husni-Bey, Elena Khudiakova, Norman Hyams, Rob Sherwood
