The Old Fire Station Gallery hosts a selection of work from Demons Land: A Poem Come True.
This multimedia art installation tells the story of an island, deep underneath the known world, in which a poem comes uncannily, horribly true.
It features large-scale history paintings, strange denatured sculptures, and mesmeric soundscapes. The heart of the exhibition is a film, which will be screened on 17 April, 8 May and 18 May.
Demons Land is based on Edmund Spenser’s The Faerie Queene, a violent, beautiful, hallucinogenic work written in the service of religious fundamentalism and cultural genocide. A poem of idealism, temptation, ravishing gorgeousness; a poem of coercion, prevention, and rape.
