Artizan welcomes Louise Bougourd to the gallery for an exhibition that will feature recently completed works.

About

Originally scheduled to take place in March 2020. Global events meant that this did not happen and a second attempt to reschedule was also overtaken by a further lockdown, so it is very much a case of third time lucky with Louse having made good use of the time working on and completing a new body of work especially for the exhibition.

Her work is inspired by her natural surroundings, combining naturalism with imagination to create expressive, vibrant, and beautiful art that is engaging and a joy to look at. Her painting process follows the same journey – she sketches on location creating bold interpretations of her surroundings; making many sketches to use in the studio, where she then works on larger pieces either on canvas or wood panels, allowing her to be bold and gestural in her mark-making. Occasionally, Louise will rip sketches up to make collages removing her from the restraint of a particular scene, helping to eliminate any suggestion of representation.

Louise’s intention is to make art that makes you look at your surroundings in a new way, with fresh eyes! She works on multiple pieces at the same time, permitting a sense of freedom as she moves between panels. This process importantly prevents her from becoming completely attached to a single painting or getting into too much detail early in its journey!

‘At the start of a painting my marks are intuitive and bold, as I move forward, considering composition, the painting has a way of determining my marks; the process slows and becomes considered – the balance between my initial responses and an analytical approach as I bring the painting to a resolution are crucial as I want to keep the freshness and vibrancy of my early marks’.
