A new exhibition exploring themes of excavation, with artworks from two very different collections of modern and contemporary art.

About

MIMA and the Roberts Institute present a new exhibition; Deep Horizons. Exploring themes of excavation, artworks include sculpture, drawing, painting, installation, ceramics, photography and moving image from two very different collections of modern and contemporary art.

Artists’ work on show includes Bernd and Hilla Becher, Chiara Camoni, Ellen Gallagher, Theaster Gates, Emily Hesse, Lonnie Holley, Onya McCausland, Ana Mendieta, Paula Rego and John Stezaker.

Working with curatorial collaborators from different fields of knowledge, their unique perspectives and interests have led to a variety of understandings of the term excavation.  Curatorial collaborators include; broadcaster and actor Sir Tony Robinson, artists Liliane Lijn and Fiona Crisp, botanist Dr Greg Kenicer, Professor of Physics, Chamkaur Ghag, writer and academic Dr Julietta Singh and former Tees Bay Pilot Geoff Taylor.

Running from 10th March – 18th June. MIMA is open Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 – 16:30, and Sunday 12:00 to 16:00. Entry is free. For more information visit mima.art and @mimauseful
