About
we have reached what some activists have started calling ‘decade zero’ of the climate crisis: we either change now or we lose our chance.
-Naomi Klein
How can artists respond to impending disaster? In what ways can art inspire significant action? How can artists help to translate dense scientific pedagogy into an idea that burns in people's minds and hearts long afterwards? Art may seem like a blunt instrument in the face of existential ruin, and yet, from the Vietnam War to the AIDS epidemic, artists of the recent past have shown that they can lead the way towards this imperative challenge.
Decade Zero attempts to navigate these issues in the exhibition of artworks, that range from digital collage to ephemeral installation. Climate change, ocean acidification, and environmental pollution will be explored to reveal the insidious ties to capitalism, unjust consequences on underprivileged regions, and governmental policy.
