Fredericks & Freiser is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by David Humphrey.
About
The artist will exhibit paintings and sculpture that continue his method of developing images from the public realm into imaginative hybrids of the social and eccentrically individual, the historic and vividly contemporary.David Humphrey’s work celebrates the peculiar nesting within the familiar. The works in this exhibition are derived from the daily experience of sleeping, being with others, or walking around the neighborhood. Humphrey continues to mix various representational schema with improvisational abstraction to tell stories saturated with psycho-social content: vexed intimacy, homo-social horseplay, and imaginative projections crashing into the real.
This exhibition will be Humphrey’s fourth with Fredericks & Freiser, and marks another development of the hybrid form of representation he has been evolving since his first show at McKee Gallery in 1984. In the decades between then and now, Humphrey’s work has engaged with and contributed to the language of contemporary art: postmodernism, post-postmodernism, and the aporia of hyper-pluralism.
