Dutch painter Rianne Douven and Indonesian light artist Nindya Nareswari are two Berlin based artists working with vastly different medium. Despite this difference, both work by trusting their instinct, letting forms, colours and contrasts take centre stage. Rianne works by virtue of reduction, initially building up layers of intense colours before shedding them to reveal the new and unforeseeable.

Nindya uses light and its inherent properties and behaviours to coax out forms and colours, often by reflections and refractions. Both artists evoke another reality; one where the fleeting moments we register subconsciously from the corner of our eyes get frozen in time, where blurred fragments of past memories appear before ebbing away slowly, leaving a feeling of recognition you can barely put your fingers on.

As well as a number of each artist's solo works featuring in the show, this joint exhibition also showcases a collaborative effort between the two artists: a merging of painting and light art into an installation that breaks the usual visual art mould.
