Agnieszka Stando was born in Warsaw. She graduated from the graphic department of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1992.
About
Between 1997 and 2006 she worked as art director at one of the leading Polish publishing houses “Czytelnik”. She made over 200 book covers and took part in many exhibitions of drawing, painting and graphic design in Europe and Japan. She has been living and working in London since 2007.
The collection of works presented in this exhibition derives from her fascination with literature, collage technique and the interest in the long tradition of surrealism in European art. The drawings were inspired by old medieval manuscripts and their sophisticated type of illustration with beautifully clear lines and metaphysical meanings. All motives used in the drawings come from manuscripts dated before 1500 ad.
