Join a free tour of Rivington Place's 'Counterpoints' exhibition with the curator David Thorp.

About

'Counterpoints' includes Jia Aili's first solo exhibition in Europe, where vast paintings explode from the canvas into the gallery space and you will also see a special site-specific installation inspired by Caravaggio, painted directly onto Rivington Place's vast window. David will also give an introduction to 'The first man who bought a juicer bought it not for drinking juice', a film by Lu Chunsheng produced during a residency at San Antonio, Texas, organised by Hans Ulrich Obrist and showing for the first time in Europe. In the film a mechanic cares for a Frankenstein-like reaper machine; the film is inspired by Orson Welle's fictional account of an alien invasion in 'War of The Worlds'. Both artists are interested in the rapid modernisation of society and the individual's relationship to the machine. Meet the tour group in the entrance of Rivington Place For more information, contact: bookings@rivingtonplace.org or call 0207 749 1240
