Artist and poet Alec Finlay will host a FREE workshop on Thursday 13 August exploring ways of doing and making during a crisis. This small group session will take place via live video on Zoom as part of TOMA Project Space programme which has been on pause during the pandemic.
This workshop is largely about self-directed creativity and becoming creatively unstuck in a supportive space. Alec will share some links developed prior to and during the coronavirus crisis, including a creative tool-kit. These will offer generative and playful ways to ameliorate lockdown and adapt to long term chronic illness or pain. Alec will also share and discuss a relevant self-penned essay reflecting on high risk groups, coronavirus and creativity: https://disabilityarts.online/magazine/opinion/i-am-protecting-myself-but-i-dont-feel-protected/
The workshop will be a nourishing space with opportunities for creative contributions, discussion as well as suggestions to add to your creative tool-kit going forward.
Participants will be encouraged to share an artwork or something they have made before the workshop to the group. Alec says: “We will treat this as a closed group in which people’s contributions aren’t shared beyond ourselves. If anyone wishes to share a work that could pose technical issues just let us know beforehand. I’d like to emphasise the self-directed nature of the project: don’t feel obliged to share anything, and let’s see the workshop itself as a relaxed time to share and chat in any way we wish.”
This event is free and all are welcome. No experience is necessary and you do not have to be an artist to take part.
