The discussion, titled Speaking Truth | Economics and Sovereignty, will take place on Tuesday, June 25 at 7PM, hosted by Abrons Arts Center. The talk will be moderated by Gregory Sholette, author, educator, and activist, and will feature a discussion with artists Andrea Carlson and Zina Saro-Wiwa.
During this discussion, present-day cultural practitioners will bring into focus strategies for tackling unrecognized labor and renewed efforts towards reclaiming sovereignty through cultural self-determination. Considering the urgency of struggles against lasting colonial systems of power, the speakers will ruminate on what connections can bring us together. They will explore ways to re-imagine and re-claim a future based on principles of emancipatory politics and critical reflections.
The event is hosted by Abrons Arts Center, a home for contemporary interdisciplinary arts in Manhattan’s Lower East Side neighborhood. Through performance presentations, exhibitions, education programs, and residencies, Abrons mobilizes communities with the transformative power of art.
