Compost is a group show including the work of Charlie McAllister, Kerry Kwok, Reinhard Agyekum and Jacob Sirkin.
About
The work included grows out of the site, a natural and outdoor setting. Organic material from the gardens as well as ceramic, paint and plaster interventions explore notions of social value, heritage, form, and colour.
Charlie McAllister’s work explores the natural in relation to the manmade through material processes often involving stacking, wire, and mod-rock. His abstract work comes from an interest in the organic and its representation within capitalist aesthetics.
Kerry Kwok’s practice explores identity through the process of sculpture and digital 3D modelling. Situating herself in London, she draws upon aspects of Hong Kong cultural heritage to navigate the context of the wider world. Touching upon themes of globalisation, homogenisation, and hybridity, she considers the potential of technology as a tool for political activism.
Jacob Sirkin´s work is an exploration of sculpture as defined by its site. This manifests itself as three-dimensional objects or multi-media installations but can also include painting and architectural rendering. His work often references norms and value systems associated with fine art, such as the frame or the gallery.
Reinhard Agyekum’s practice is rooted in an exploration of colour. He considers his process of producing imagery and sculpture as a playful act where colour and form are assigned personalities which extend their potential as tools for storytelling and composition. His practice draws its strengths from colour perception and theory as means to study the individual and universal schemas built around the relevance and usefulness of colour. Recently, he has reflected on sociocultural connotations associated with colour.
