About

The aim of the exhibition is to celebrate the best of these exciting, but often unsung, new commissions, to inform debate, encourage artists to engage with the challenges involved and to promote best practice. Commission is a joint project between Wallspace and Art and Christianity Enquiry. ACE's monograph Contemporary art in British churches will also be published to coincide with the exhibition. Works range from Craigie Aitchison's paintings for Liverpool and Truro Cathedrals, and Antony Gormley's celebrated figure Sound II in Winchester Cathedral, to the more recent bronze window sculpture by Rona Smith for Lumen United Reformed Church, Regents Square and Shirazeh Houshiary's window for St Martin-in-the-Fields. Commission will feature a key work by each artist, together with installation photographs, drawings, maquettes and other documentation of the commissioned piec
