Join us for a workshop with urbanist and sociologist Anne Querrien discussing ‘collective equipment’ as spaces of intersection and reconfiguration of political struggles, and their role in catalysing processes of social transformation, collective self-care and alternative forms of governance.
About
Organised by the Architecture and Social Movements Research Group at the Royal College of Art, this workshop will start by a discussion on collective equipment in the work of Anne Querrien and CERFI. With a unique work on education and pedagogy, Querrien was core to the research of social, cooperative and local facilities developed by CERFI in France between 1967-87. Querrien’s presentation will be followed by an open discussion on collective equipment today in dialogue with the work produced by the studio ADS7 at the Royal College of Art. ADS7 is a design and research studio the Royal College of Art, which completed a three years project investigating collective equipment and its importance for re-assessing the role of architecture within social movements and popular organisations. Several design projects will be in the space.
Anne Querrien is an urbanist and sociologist. She was one of the founding members and general secretary of CERFI (Centre for Institutional Study Research and Training), active between 1967-1987. Her career and research has focused on the politics of the city, on social housing and educational facilities. She is member of the International Association of Technicians, Experts and Researchers (AITEC), editor of Les Annales de la Recherche Urbaine and part of the editorial board for the journals Multitudes and Chimeres.
The workshop is open to all. Tickets are free but booking is essential.
